Success and Happiness

"Consider the following. We humans are social beings. We come into the world as the result of others' actions. We survive here in dependence on others. Whether we like it or not, there is hardly a moment of our lives when we do not benefit from others' activities. For this reason it is hardly surprising that most of our happiness arises in the context of our relationships with others."
HH The Dalai Lama.

What is the measure of our happiness? in today's fast paced world we try and work hard, make money, achieve success in our workplace for what? because we think that it would make us happy, but does it ? I dont think so. Every time we keep looking for more. I think we should measure our happiness with what really makes us happy. The quality time we spend with friends, family and loved ones. Knowing that there are people who genuinely care about us. These things should matter more than money and work. These things bring more happiness than anything else. Sharing a moment of joy with a loved one is priceless and can not be bought. Hearing some good news about someone you care about makes your so happy sometimes that nothing else could compare with that.

I miss the times when people used to really know and care about people around them, when you knew who your neighbors were, when you were there for each other. Life was so much more personal and so much happier. Now we hardly know people and we hardly care.

The richer we become, the bigger walls we build around us..the less we know the less we care. perhaps it can be argued nothing saps away empathy more than wealth!

Well, Zak definitely made his point clear :o)

Anyway, I totally understand how you feel D. Rebel. Times are not the same. I find it funny sometimes when I hear myself say this, because I sound like my grandma!

There are very few honest and good people left in the world. Partly because everyone is so occupied in their own survival and moving up the ladder, that they don't seem to care who they step on. If everyone stopped to just think about their actions and the impact it may have on others...maybe people would change?

@Zak - thats very true, sometimes i think we bother too much about money and not about life. I mean how different would our lives be if we wernt in a rat race for the money.

@Enyur - Times have changed drastically so have the needs and wants of our generation. The values that once decribed a good human being are not there any more. All we want is fame and fortune. We do not look at what we are will to do to get there. most of us would sell our souls to the devil for that if we had a choice.
