Money can make you happier

I read this article on Forbes, its a good read.

"A new breed of economists is exploring what makes people smile. Turns out money really can't make you happy -- though the rich, as a group, are definitely happier."

interesting. I actually read something on forbes.com that says money DOES make you happy. Here's a link to my blog entry about it...

I think we would have to define the word happy before drawing any conclusions. There is no universal state of happiness and thus it is a relative concept.

Those who have more need more and would need a larger pocket to satiate their need for fulfillment so yes being rich would mean being happy in that case.

There is also an elemnt of social standards involvedin defining and influencing our needs.

The rich and poor will be happy for very different reasons, but in general financial security, however big or small amount of money, is always a key factor to people's psychological well being.

And perhaps that can be called happiness. However money that can fill the seven seas will never make anyone happy in the end, in the absence of the true patron of happiness; contentment.

Shaira, very well said. Contentment, in todays day and age, and probably always it has been that no one is content with what they have everybody wants more. there is a saying, i don't know whose but it goes "blessed is the man who expects nothing for he shall never be dissapointed."
